  • SHINSEGAE Department Store THE HERITAGE

The Myeong-dong and Namdaemun areas in Seoul, where SHINSEGAE THE MAIN is located, have long been hubs of both shopping and finance. This district has flourished as a center of urban culture since the modern era, home to many architectural landmarks such as the former Seoul Station (now Culture Station Seoul 284) and the old headquarters of the Bank of Korea (now the Bank of Korea Money Museum). Among these is the former Chosun Savings Bank building, a symbol of Korea’s early financial history. Completed in 1935, the building is notable for its granite façade and ornate ceiling details. Having survived the Korean War (1950–1953) without major damage, it remains well-preserved and is designated as a Seoul City Tangible Cultural Heritage site.

Originally built for Chosun Savings Bank and later used as the headquarters of Cheil Bank, the building was acquired and renovated by the SHINSEGAE Group. Based on historical blueprints and research, the structure was restored to nearly 90% of its original form. Today, it lives on as “THE HERITAGE,” a newly launched cultural complex that inherits and celebrates its historical significance. This unique space blends global luxury brands with traditional Korean culture, establishing itself as a new urban landmark. Experience the harmony of past and present at THE HERITAGE, where the legacy of Korea’s modern history meets the joy of shopping.
